We've come a long way from the massive pipe
organ at Notre Dame. Nowadays, the musical possibilities using
an electronic keyboard are endless. Piano, organ, strings,
horns and percussion are now all at your command. It's no
longer just a digital piano but a fully electronic keyboard
capable of an infinite variety of sound, especially when using
sampling keyboards.
Keyboard workstations also allow
sequencing, sampling, effects and mixing without a
computer.
As you progress there are expansion boards and
sound expansion cards you can add on to gain more keyboard
features.

To discover keyboard treasure and achieve your musical potential, imagine a globe of the earth. Visualize the northern hemisphere, the southern hemisphere, and the equator. Now visualize the city or town you live in. Your town is one location on the globe. Now visualize the grand staff of the piano. There is a top staff for the high notes, a bottom staff for the low notes, and in between the two staves is some space where you’ll find a note with a short line through it – Middle C.
Have you ever seen someone playing piano without sheet music and wonder how are they doing that?
It's like magic to the uninitiated. They think this person must have years and years of training under their belt. And while some pianists do have years of classical training it doesn't mean a thing!
